Lot 4021 CIVIL WAR 1864 DATED PROVIDENCE TOOL COMPANY RIFLE
MUSKET & BAYONET. Cal. 58. NSN. Standard configuration of scarcer contract model 1861 US percussion rifle musket, 40" barrel, "VP eaglehead" proofs, "HMB" inspection, 3 position rear sight, 3 flat spring retained barrel bands. Lock marked with spread wing eagle with "U" & S" on either side over "PROVIDENCE TOOL CO / PROVIDENCE R.I." & "1864" at tail. Walnut stock has 2 cartouches opposite lock. Buttplate surcharged "US" with unique Providence Tool shadowed letters like on lock. CONDITION: good to very good overall, complete & original, markings discernible, metal overall cleaned and gray with pitting, stock sound, worn edges, dings & dents, discernible cartouches, mechanics fine, weak rifled bore. Accompanying bayonet is matching good condition with US surcharge. PROVENANCE: Bob Alispones estate collection. (01-28681/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
